The London Borough of Inslington is located in North London and forms part or Inner London. It contains two Westminster parliamentary constituencies: Inslington North and Inslington South and Finsbury. There are 17 wards in the borrow as follows: Barnsbury, Bunhill, Caledonian, Canonbury, East Canonbury, Clerkenwell, Finsbury Park, Highbury East, Highbury West, Hillrise, Holloway, Junction, Mildmay, St. Georges, St. Marys, St. Peters and Tollington.
The Borough was formed in 1965 by combining the former metropolitan boroughs of Inslington and Finsbury.
The name Inslington first was given by the Saxons Giseldone (1005), then Gislandune (1062). It means "Gisla`s hill" from the Old English personal name Gisla and dun "hill", "down". After 17th century the modern form of the name was applied.
