| Useful Facts About Your Borough |
London Borough of Harringey is situated in North London and forms part of Outer London. It covers an area more than 11 square miles (28.5 km2) and includes the following wards: Alexandra, Bounds Green, Bruce Grove, Crouch End, Fortis Green, Harringay, Highgate, Hornsey, Muswell Hill, Noel Park, Northumberland Park, Seven Sisters, Saint Ann’s, Stroud Green, Tottenham Green, Tottenham Hale, West Green , White Hart Lane and Woodside.
The symbol of Harringey is based on a device in the Borough Arms. It performs electric flash representing the first television transmission in Britain from Alexandra Palace first constructed in 1873.
Similarly to the most of the Outer London Haringey remained a rural area until the 18th century when large country houses close to London became increasingly popular. The development of the railways from the mid-nineteenth century onwards led to rapid urbanisation. And by the end of the century much of Haringey had been transformed from a rural to an urbanised area.
