Boen Animoso Maple Engineered 3-Strip Flooring, Protect Ultra, 209x3x14 mm is a natural wood flooring with an exceptional quality.

Boen engineered flooring is composed of 3 layers. The top layer is 3.6 mm of natural hardwood, while the middle and the bottom layer is made of spruce.

Boen offers a unique and exceptionally stable installation system by a combination of the Boen Uniclick System on the long side of the board combined with 5G Boen X-Press Click System on the short side of the plank. This not only provides easier and faster installation, but it also ensures dimensional stability and no gaps between the boards. Boen engineered wood floorings can be installed as floating flooring without the need for using glue and nails, suitable for both domestic and commercial installation.

Maple has a very uniform and gentle grain pattern and the natural light colour makes it a very exclusive floor.

This natural grade flooring has a slight variation in tone and pattern. It is characterised by sound medium sized wood knots allowing some sapwood and sapwood streaks.

The lacquered surface treatment of the boards creates a beautiful smooth look and feel.

Protect Ultra is highly abrasive factory-provided 7-fold lacquered sealing, in satin sheen, which considerably reduces the care requirements and increases the durability of the flooring.

The satin lacquer sheen complements the character of the wood by highlighting its natural structure while at the same time providing more durable and easier to clean surface.

The 3-strip design floorings provide a stunning appearance and offer various decorating opportunities, making them suitable for any interior style.

All Boen engineered wood flooring are suitable for installation above underfloor heating systems using a vapour barrier between the hearing system and the wood floor.

With over long years of experience in the field of real wood flooring, Boen offers a large selection of high quality products combining quality and tradition.

Boen has its own maintenance products specifically made to suit the Boen pre-finished floors. The series contains:

  • Boen Daily Cleaner
  • Boen Refresher
  • Bona Naturale Polish Matt

These floor maintenance products must be applied in accordance with the appropriate product instructions and care must be taken to avoid over application of the material.

It is important to note that floors treated on a regular basis using a polish, "maintainer", "gloss-builder" or similar, must be sanded back to bare wood prior to the application of further coats of lacquer.

For Matt lacquered floors use a matt polish, e.g. Bona Naturale rather than a refresher as the floor would eventually become shiny.

 Frequency Recommendations:

  • Moderate domestic use (bedrooms and living rooms) -
    as required, every six months
  • Average to heavy use (stairs, corridors, offices with public access) -
    every two weeks
  • Heavy use (restaurants, department stores, barracks, schools) -
    every week

Boen engineered hardwood flooring is industrially manufactured with prefinished surface in accordance with DIN 280 part 2 and can be installed floating, glued down or nailed down. Boen engineered flooring fitting methods are explained below.

All three installation methods are generally accepted by Boen for the majority of their 3-ply products except the 2-ply products, Prestige and Traffic which are only made for glue down and nail down installation.

Floating Installation:

The advantages of the floating installation are as follows:

  • It can be used for installation on all kinds of sub-flooring, including thin carpet, old loose concrete or concrete sub-flooring with a variable/uncertain moisture content.
  • Prior to installation, a simple levelling of the sub floor can be done. Subfloor requirements are less critical when using the floating system than those required for glue down installation.
  • Installation is easy for both craftsmen and Do-It-Yourself alike.
  • The quantity of wood flooring adhesive used is considerably reduced as it is only required for the connection between tongue and groove.
  • The visual effect and performance of the floor is more even because a floating floor appears as a single sheet and any expansion/contraction only occurs at the perimeter of the floor.

Nailing Down

  • A nailed or glued down floor can experience individual expansion/contraction of each board and in dry climates this can lead to small gaps between each board.
  • It is absolutely essential to have an even sub floor. If the sub floor is uneven, it could lead to damage of the tongue and groove connection. This normally leads to gaps, which expose the wood to damage from moisture which again can cause
discoloration of the wood. The step-sound is kept within the room and does not carry to apartments/ rooms below.
  • It is much easier to remove the floor, should this be necessary.

Glue Down:

  • Craftsmanship has improved greatly with respect to the glue down method of installation. One main advantage is the total stability under point-pressure, e.g. very heavy furniture, heavy closets, pianos, etc.
  • The function of the tongue and groove which hold the boards together is of lesser importance. This means that a glued down hardwood floor does not display movement or weakness.
  • The step-sound is considerably reduced. The sound is absorbed by the sub-floor.
  • If sub-floor heating is installed, a glued down product will give less resistance to the transfer of heat compared to a floating system. It is however necessary to adhere to certain rules where sub-floor heating is installed.
  • Relative humidity does not have the same immediate effect on a glued down floor as with floating floors.
  • From a designers point of view, a glue down solution is often recommended when installing floors through narrow doorways, on stairs and in adjoining rooms without the need for doorsills and other types of moulding.
  • Sanding and repairs of old glued down floors is simple.
  • Replacement of staves is also easy when the boards are glued to the sub-floor.
  • A glued down floor will perform satisfactorily, because the floor is fixed to the sub floor.
  • From the long life cycle angle, it means a reduction in the utilisation/exploitation of hardwood and can as such be included in BOEN's Environment Certificate.
  • With regards to adhesive, there are many solutions. In general the solvent based-and the polyurethane adhesive areused for critical sub floor conditions. The water based dispersion adhesives today are of high quality, and these products are being used more and more.
  • BOEN has a full program of liquid damp proofing membranes / primers and adhesives for glue down installation.

Boen wood flooring products are available in over 40 countries with Corporate Management base in Norway. The brand name of BOEN is actually a result of combining the resources of BOEN Parkett and Höhns – Das Profilparkett. The BOEN group is continuously keeping its strong position on the market.

BOEN’s concept prides in quality and thoroughness in its product manufacturing. Driven by the desire to produce stable hardwood flooring, BOEN”s products undergo constant development. High performance and dimensional stability are a main feature of BOEN’s products. Furthermore, BOEN’s products can endure from extreme dry conditions to high humidity. Environmentally-conscious BOEN has a tremendous respect for nature and its using its resources wisely.

Product Type

BOEN offers a wide range of engineered wood flooring available in several grades, patterns, thicknesses either with pre-lacquered or pre-oiled surfaces.

The patterns variety involves 3-strip, plank/wide plank, ships plank/design plank and 1-strip, parquet for alternative patterns line herringbone or individual patterns.

BOEN manufactures engineered hardwood flooring for several methods of installation, including nailing, gluing in tongue and groove, for glueing to the sub-floor, self-supporting hardwood flooring and the easy-to-lay X-press click system.

Warranty

BOEN flooring comes with 20 years warranty for domestic use.

Construction

BOEN engineered wood flooring comprises of a natural hardwood top-layer, a natural spruce softwood middle-layer, a spruce/pine softwood bottom-layer (except for Prestige + Traffic), a surface made out of 6 coats UV cured finish and glue where a High Frequency technique applies and the Formaldehyde is kept under E1 standard.

Advantages

BOEN's own standards are on average considerably higher than those which are generally practised in the production of engineered hardwood flooring.

ConneXProcess - BOEN has developed an advanced method of planing where the tongue and groove is milled after varnishing. The edges of the board are then sharp and the floor does not have any visible joins when laid.

Product Stability

Reflective to the humidity changes wood continually expands and contracts. The thicker and wider the staves are, the greater the variation. BOEN engineered wood flooring in multy layer range has very little convex and concave movement resulting from a combination of narrow strips, correct composition of the blocking layer, a good adhesion process and continuous follow-up based on BOEN's Quality Control System.

Subfloor Heatin

Subfloor heating is suitable for hardwood flooring with a thickness of 15 mm except for  Beech and Maple which have an extensive ability to expand and retract when exposed to varying temperatures and humidity and these species are not suitable for installation with under-floor heating.
