Methods of Application

Finished surface in 2 days, 2 coats

  1. First coat on the raw, sanded wood approx. 35 ml/m².
  2. Mistakes in the wet coating can be corrected up to 30 minutes after the first application.
  3. Drying time approx. 8-10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/50 % rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can increase drying time. Allow for good ventilation.
  4. If desired, the dried finish can be smoothened with fine grain sandpaper (P400) or with a scouring pad before applying the second coat.
  5. Second coat approx. 35 ml/m².
  6. Drying time approx. 8-10 hours.

Note: Also available with Solas certification for the shipbuilding industry or as an anti-slip variant (R9/ R11).


Osmo Polyx®-Oil Tints

Osmo Polyx®-Oil TintsUse - Osmo Polyx®-Oil Tints is ideal for the protection and decorative staining of all wooden floors, such as solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring, as well as furniture surfaces. It is only recommended for light-coloured wood species.

Note: Not to be used on exotic wood species such as Merbau, Wenge, Jatoba etc. Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is recommended for these tropical woods.


Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent

Osmo Wood Wax Finish TransparentUse: Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent is suitable for the protection and the decorative finishing of wood in indoor areas: wall panelling, mouldings and beams as well as doors. It is also suitable for edge-glued panels, chipboard and MDF. Ideal as a coloured base coat for wooden flooring and for recoating darkened wood surfaces. Highly recommended for furniture and children’s toys.

For a lightly stained effect: within 20 minutes after the application, wipe with a cloth or with a white pad along the wood grain.

For an intense colour: if an intense colour is desired, repeat the process (apply a maximum of 2 coats). This only applies to intense colour tones.

As a coloured base coat for flooring: drying time approx. 24 hours (instead of 12 hours; see point 3). Second coat approx. 35 ml/m² with a clear Polyx®-Oil. Drying time approx. 8-10 hours.

For floors with a white base coat, a top coat with Osmo Polyx®-Oil Tints White (3040) is recommended.


Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra ThinUse: Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is suitable for the protection of wood in indoor areas: wall and ceiling panelling, wooden flooring, furniture and toys. Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin is also particularly suited to the clear treatment of hardwoods rich in extractives, such as Meranti, Wengé, Merbau etc.

Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin is deep-penetrating, retains the natural character of the wood. The surface becomes fully protected, water-resistant and will be able to breathe.

  1. First coat on the raw, sanded wood approx. 35 ml/m².
  2. Allow drying for 30 minutes. Wipe away all excess wax and touch up untreated areas.
  3. Drying time approx. 12 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23 °C/50 % rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can increase drying time. Allow for good ventilation.
  4. Second coat approx. 35 ml/m².
  5. Allow to dry for 30 minutes and wipe away any excess wax.
  6. Drying time approx. 12 hours.

Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid

Osmo Polyx®-Oil RapidUse: Ideal for the protection of all wooden floors, such as solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring, as well as for furniture surfaces.

Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid retains the natural character of the wood whilst increasing the durability, extremely hardwearing, water and dirt repellent. Quick-drying (approx 4-6hrs) - 2 coats in one day!

Osmo Wood Protector

Osmo Wood ProtectorUse: Osmo Wood Protector is a protective treatment for woods prone to dampness and moist.

Osmo Wood Protector is suitable for all interior wood, for example, wooden flooring made of wood species susceptible to blue stain (e.g. Pine), window frames and wood in bathrooms, as well as exterior wood, for which an absolutely ecological, biocide-free impregnation is desired, for example, playground equipment and sandboxes.

Methods of Application

Finished surface in 1 day, 1 coat (no stand-alone finish)

  1. Apply to raw wood approx 120 ml/m².
  2. Drying time approx. 24 hours when applied with a brush or approx. 36 hours when dipped (normal climatic conditions, 23°C/50% rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can increase drying time. Allow for good ventilation.
  3. The final topcoat must be carried out within one week.

Osmo TopOil

Osmo TopOilUse: Osmo TopOil is ideal for protecting interior furniture surfaces and work surfaces made of solid wood or edge-glued panels (e.g. kitchen worktops, desks, shelving etc.). Also suited to cork and OSB.

  2. Drying time approx. 8-10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23°C/50% rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can increase drying time. Ventilate well.
  3. Second coat approx. 5-10 ml/m². Best to apply with an Osmo Oil Finish Applicator Fleece or a lint-free cloth.
  4. Drying time approx. 8-10 hours.
  5. To avoid applying too much product, follow Point 3 for any maintenance coats.

Osmo UV-Protection-Oil and UV-Protection-Oil Extra

Osmo UV-Protection-OilUse: Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is ideal for all vertical wood surfaces in outdoor areas: doors, windows, window shutters (dimensionally stable elements), carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, and garden sheds (dimensionally unstable elements).

Osmo Polyx®-Oil Effect

Osmo Polyx®-Oil EffectUse: Osmo Polyx®-Oil Effect is ideally suited for producing special effects on wooden flooring in the interior. Through the application of Polyx®-Oil Effect Natural / Raw, light-coloured interior wood is protected nearly invisibly – the natural wood colour and grain are not enhanced. Polyx®-Oil Effect Silver/Gold, in contrast, is a decorative coating for darker wooden floors.

  5. Second coat approx. 35 ml/m² with clear Polyx®-Oil.

Note: In order to achieve the desired effect of Silver/Gold on light-coloured wood species, first apply Osmo Wood Wax Finish Black as a coloured base coat and allow it to dry for 24 hours. It takes 1 day longer for the finished surface to finish. Remove any visible white pigments before leaving to dry (3044).

Osmo Polyx®-Oil Anti-SlipUse: Osmo Polyx®-Oil Anti-Slip is ideal for the protection of all wooden floors and stairs that require higher slip resistance (commercial/public interiors), such as solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring.

Finished surface in 2-3 days, 2-3 coats (1st/2nd Oil Stain, 2nd/3rd clear Polyx®-Oil)

Transparent colour:

  1. Apply very thinly to the clean and dry wood along the wood grain with Osmo Floor Brush, Microfibre Roller or Double Blade Scraper.
  2. Most brushstrokes can be removed within 30 minutes after applying.
  3. Buff into the wood evenly with a white pad.
  4. Drying time approx. 12 hours (normal climatic conditions, 23°C/50% rel. humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can increase drying time. Allow for good ventilation.

Intense colour:

  1. Apply the first coat as described above.
  2. Apply the second coat, also very thinly.
  3. Buff into the wood evenly with a white pad.
  4. Drying time approx. 12 hours.
  5. Carry out the final topcoat with a clear Osmo Polyx®-Oil and allow it to dry.

Note: Oil Stain can also be applied to smaller surfaces with a lint-free cloth.
