Creative Floor Finishes by Woca
As a large distributor of WOCA, Flooring Centre had the opportunity to host a workshop in its showroom where key products were presented and shown proper use for the achievement of some desired effects. Workshops like this are suitable for working professionals and enthusiasts in the area of wood flooring.
As a brand WOCA is dedicated to the simple principle where wood is perceived as unique raw material with number of natural inner qualities needed for long lasting durability, They have achieved their purpose by developing products which successfully maintain and rejuvenate the wood with natural penetrating oil capable of hardening deep inside the wood and able to provide new life and energy.
Today WOCA has a carefully developed collection of products designed into categories of pre-treatment (stains, lye, colours), basic treatment (paint, oil, wax, lacquer, soap) and maintaining/ cleaning (soaps, paste / oil / care).
A focus of one of these workshops could be the idea of how to be creative with certain products that have unique properties with no equivalent found in other manufacturers like:
Diamond oil
Used for oil finishing of wooden floors with a floor machine. The oil ensures an extremely hard-wearing, dirt and water repellent surface. Ideal for basic finishing off any unfinished, new and newly sanded interior woodwork. The content of the solvent is less than 1%. Floor machine is recommended for the polishing of bigger areas.
- needs up to 24 hours for drying.
Driftwood Lye
WOCA Driftwood Lye is a unique product, which gives the wood a weather-beaten patina. The product is primarily for oak wood. By using this product, the wood will get a very nice 2-dimensional design. Finally, the surface must be treated with one of the WOCA oils. The product is water-based.
- 24 hours needed for drying
Wood Lye
Wood Lye is used for lye priming of unfinished or newly sanded interior woodwork i.e. floor, stairs, furniture and panels. The priming prevents the wood from yellowing and enhances the wood grain creating a coloured wash effect, depending on the chosen colour. Wood Lye may be used on all types of wood.
– drying time 8 hours
Active Stains
Active Stain is water based and developed to produce grey special effect colours in oak wood and create a unique colour. The product is non-corrosive. Active Stain works by reacting with the tannic acid in the oak. The colour may vary after application depending on the concentration of tannin in the wood. Please notice! The colour might change in the first period of time when exposed to UV light.
– 24 hours
Our presenter was the main representative of WOCA in UK Paul Harvey, who showed the best tricks for achieving amazing results. Due to the need for drying of the lye and stains, which vary between 8 and 24 hours, some of the samples were prepared beforehand and ready for their last treatment with the buffing machine.
On the video, you can see combinations of Active Stain plus Clear and white Diamond oil where the active stain joins with the natural tannin in the wood and depending on its amount creates less or more grey colouring. Diamond oil also works great in partnership with colours again giving the floor a unique look. WOCA are extremely proud of their Diamond oil range as it represents their exceptional one coat system expressly designed for commercial use which also means it's WOCA's most durable wood finish.
Or Driftwood Lye when first applied its texture resembles some white powdery mixture that changes after buffing with a coarse pad and leaves some brown or grey base with white streaks through the grain.
Application of oil with patina discs is another task to be completed in the workshop’s agenda where the discs have a special coerce rubbery texture designed to build the oil into the wood grain in an uncommon way meanwhile greatly improving the penetration of the oil and leaving the surface especially smooth.
Maintenance is pivotal so e demonstration of how the WOCA cleaner as a preparatory method for any oil-based application as it visibly opens up and cleans the pores of the timber.
To top and exceed expectations of the people attending in workshops of WOCA they are being offered a 25% discount on their next order plus samples from all boards used during the presentation.
