3 Of The Most Popular Home Flooring Options

    Floor Decisions

When it comes to the interior of your home, you always have the full freedom to change it around however you want in order to achieve the feeling and atmosphere you are going for. Whether it will be modern, classic, or extra cosy and homely, you don’t have to go into in-depth and time-consuming home improvement projects so you can achieve your goal.

Even if you are on a budget, you don’t even have to spend a little fortune. A few new throw pillows here and there, maybe a new colour for the walls, you can go out and buy new furniture pieces and so and completely transform the interior of the place. However, there are a couple of staple elements of the interior design of every place that cannot be changed around that easily. The flooring is one of these elements. That’s why, whenever you are choosing a new home floor option, you should take your time and make sure to consider what will best suit not only the style you are going for but also your needs and requirements in terms of functionality and durability. Your flooring choice will stick with you for a very long time, so you better do thorough research before you make a final choice. Today we are going to help you by discussing what are the most popular and common home floor options and how they will eventually incorporate into the interior design of choice and the overall atmosphere of the place.

First of all, keep in mind that whenever you are considering what type of flooring to choose for your home, here are the main aspects you have to create a plan in order to make sure you are making a suitable choice:

    •    Shop around and check what are all options available

    •    Uses

    •    Quality

    •    Traffic expected

    •    Installation (not all floors are suitable to be installed at your place)

    •    Finishing

    •    Maintenance and cleaning routine

    •    Economy

    •    Your budget/the price of the floor

    •    Appearance

    •    Lasting power

    •    Durability

    •    Functionality

    Tiles Flooring

Tile flooring is one of the most popular types of flooring for a domestic house. Part of the reason why is that tiles come in a wide variety of colours, textures, styles, and even patterns if you want to go the extra mile and have a distinctive and unique style. In addition, tiles are easy to maintain and clean. Tiles are the most common choice for bathrooms and outdoor areas, but also commonly used for kitchens because they are not affected by moisture and humidity as much as other flooring options on the market. Keep in mind that some types of tiles can get very slippery, so consider this when deciding on where you want to have them installed. However, keep in mind that, despite very durable and hard-wearing, tiles can be damaged and broken and you will have to replace the damaged ones. In addition, tile flooring is not the most affordable out there on the market. It comes in a really wide variety of options, including ceramic tiles and vitrified tiles flooring (these come in a variety too, including full body, double charge vitrified, soluble salt vitrified, and glazed vitrified tiles), and porcelain tiles flooring.

    Stone Flooring

    Flooring Types Image

Whenever you are looking for a natural and extra hard-wearing and damage-resistant flooring option for your home, the stone floor is probably the best choice for you. Natural, very beautiful and stylish, adding a unique atmosphere to every area of your home, the stone floor can be installed in any room, but it is most popular for bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor areas. Stone flooring will easily stand the test of time and don’t show any signs of damage, wear and tear for decades. Indeed, real stone floor, such as marble or granite, is very practical and functional in terms of durability, stability and hard-wearing power.

Despite the fact that stone flooring comes with a lot of benefits to your home, there are also some downsides of this choice. First of all, it is a naturally cool material and not suitable for colder climates or if you want to achieve a cosy and homely feel in the house. Stone flooring can get slippery when wet and is generally not the cosiest option out there, which may mean that it is not a convenient choice, especially if you have young children and pets. The natural stone floor comes in different styles, including marble, granite, limestone, sandstone, slate, Kota stone and travertine flooring. Keep in mind that real stone flooring can be also one of the most expensive options out there.

    Wood Flooring

Wood flooring is, indeed, one of the most popular flooring options for domestic and commercial use too. It is beautiful and stylish, come in a great variety of colours, textures, wood species, grades, natural and man-made patterns, finish options, it is easy to maintain and keep clean and naturally hygienic, it is also naturally durable, hard-wearing, and long-lasting. It is a great choice for practically any space and area of the home, even for moisture areas such as bathrooms, basements, and kitchens, if you choose the right type that won’t be damaged by the moisture. However, the wood floor could be very sensitive to moisture and humidity and get damaged, so you better keep it for areas such as bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, etc. In addition, wood flooring can get scratched, marked, dull. Luckily, you can always rely on a professional wood floor sanding, refinishing, and repair service to take care of the floor and bring it back to its initial condition. Real wood flooring is available in two styles – solid wood and engineered wood. However, both options may be a bit expensive for your budget and if you want to get the look of wood but not spend a fortune, laminate flooring is the cheapest option you have. Keep in mind that laminate flooring is not made from real wood and it is a man-made product designed to just mimic real wood.
